Server Power Supply DiedDec 1st 2025

Apologies for the downtime for the past few days, the power supply of all things died in the physical server - I never expected that to be the cause of the outage! Typically, it happened while I was away on holiday so didn't have a chance to get physical access to the datacenter until today.

Thankfully I managed to swap the unit out with a spare from an different chassis, and will replace that with a unit I found on eBay. The rest of the day was banging my head against firewall rules that had inexplicably stopped working. That turned out not to be the rules themselves, but a kernel setting that wasn't surviving a reboot.

Server ChangeJun 6th 2025

A server migration was performed on the 5th June, which will have taken everything offline for a while, and in a cruel twist of fate the DNS server died at the same time. Apologies for the delays in getting systems back online, but this was part of a much larger work-related change, so my personal systems had to take a back seat.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

Version 3Apr 5th 2019

I began to look into some more site updates recently and ran head first into some issues with the way the underlying core of the site had been built two years ago. At the time I figured I'd just live with the few minor "bad practices" because it made my life easier and the code seemed neater... unfortunately this eventually came round to bite me in the ass.

So, for the past week I've spent my evenings reconfiguring the core and literally every single function that is used. That means that Imperial actually uses a more Object Orientated (OOP) approach for once. Fingers crossed there aren't too many bugs that I've introduced, but so far everything seems to be ticking along well.

The good news behind all of this boring stuff that I imagine you don't care about, is that I should be able to continue with my other plans!
